So Cap'n Jazz renunion Brooklyn was inside last night. We don't like Brooklyn Bowl. It's gross and more like Outback Steakhouse. Brian Chippendale is like most singer-songwriters in that when you're in the room with him doing his thing you feel like you're witnessing something special. His band Lightning Bolt and Cap'n Jazz had some pit-churning grooves to share with us knucklehead 10th graders. I honestly think Tim Kinsella summed up the prolematic facets of the evening when he noted the crowd's moshing activites as, "like DIY at the Ritz or a Stormtroopers of Death youtube clip". The various members of Cap'n Jazz have aged well to varying degrees. They sounded good, and for better or worse it's easy to hear why, in 2003, in every high school in the country four to five people were psyched on Cap'n Jazz
I remember being at the Butchershop in Allston and hitting on this guy's girlfriend and but I ended up talking about him and he made this astute recommendation based on my preferences of Esplendor Geometrico. They turned out to be not at all what I expected but this guy I think meant more something like the above.
